Fitness Enthusiasts - Powerlifting or Bodybuilding

Anyone heading to Beijing (or there now) into bodybuilding or powerlifting? I've read the gyms aren't that great and are expensive over there. Just want to network with other gym folks and see the lay of the land.

"The End" is just a new begining - Gettiing Ready for China

. I have two regrets in life : Not becoming a MarineMP  and a school teacher.  Well , now I can fulfill my dream of being a teacher. I always talked about becoming a teacher when i was in grade school.  My mother told me I would play by myself under our house for hours playing teacher. Then the police academy movies came out and my sister went to the marines, so I wanted to be a marine and a police officer.

I took the placement test for the marines and I passed . I thought I was…

Any Advice for First time teachers moving to Beijing?

Hey guys,

I have lived all my life in London UK. I have travelled and spent some a month or so in other countries. But my main point is that I feel once you live in a western country such as the UK you become accustomed to how there is a system, how everything is organised and well quite frankly it becomes very very difficult for you to move to a country that is not developed or western such as the UK.

I need some advice regarding my ambition of living and teaching…

I survived the 6 month mark

Sooo.. it's almost 7 months that I've been here in China and it's longer than I expected I'd be. I am really proud that I survived the changes in my life and took on the new adventure with a positive mind.So far I have visited Thailand, Bangkok and Phuket and I have visited Wuyi and Hangzhou. I have many more adventures on my list.

EF has been great. I have turned up at 3 TRT events now and they have all been so much fun. So that extra opportunity to explore and make new friends is a… Continue

VPN

Anyone have a good VPN recommendation?  I am shopping around for VPNS and the best ones seem to be Astril, Express VPN, TorVPN, Purevpn, I don't mind paying for one because the free ones are not that great..

Good things come to those who wait (hopefully)!!

Hi everyone

Nice to meet you!

My name's Charlotte, I'm 28 and from the UK.  I applied to teach Kids and Teens with EF back in January and was accepted to teach in a place called Fuzhou (near Taiwan) starting 3rd May. Obviously that date has passed - hence the blog title- and I was just wondering how many other people are in a similar situation wherein their arrival date has been postponed.

So far I have ticked the following EF…

VPN

Can anyone recommend a VPN that charges you in GBP not USD? Everything I can find is in USD, if I use one of these I'll be charged for a currency conversion.
Thanks
Shanika

Heading out to Hangzhou

Hello everyone :)

I'm heading out to Hangzhou in mid-late June and was wondering if anyone else was heading out there or who is there already. Also looking for tips on what to take out. Just to introduce myself I am from the UK and I have a BA in archaeology from Cardiff, UK and then studied for an MA in World Heritage Studies in Cottbus, Germany where I also taught English as a foreign language. Taking some time out to teach English whilst hopefully doing some more research into…

Getting Ready for Guangzhou

Ever since I finished college I've wanted to work abroad. Before I started my undergraduate career I had only been out of the country twice before; once to visit my brothers in boarding school, and then on a two-week vacation to Trinidad. In fact, my trip to South Africa last fall was the first time I'd traveled in nearly a decade. So imagine my excitement when I received my offer letter to join the EF team in Guangzhou.

I'm rather fearless by nature, but I am aware that China is a…

China TEFL

Hi all, I will be coming to Shanghai On July 18 to arrive on July 19. My questions are as follows:

A) I was only given a 10 facts study guide to use for the China TEFL exams. This study guide I found not to be quite resourceful. Are there any other study guides/tools/ resources to use for this these exams? My second set of exams come out in May.…

TEFL training course

Getting through the units fairly well. That was until I hit Unit 4, my goal for tonight. My feelings right now involve much confusion, as well as hope. I totally was not ready for this. However, I will do my absolute best! At this time of the hour my brain most likely wants to shut down. Determination is definitely key throughout this process for those who have not yet reached this process. My advice is to practice pronouncing along with the Instructor. Also, I'm not sure why my puppy is so… Continue

And so it begins, Shenzhen in July

I am an older teacher, but young at heart.  I would like to hear from older teachers, say 30+ but am excited to hear from everyone!

Can't wait to begin teaching in Shenzhen this July.  What have your experiences been like and what advice would you give?

Right now I am in the midst of collecting and uploading all of the information required for bluecard and obtaining a work visa.  Phew, what a collection it is!  Any funny or cautionary tales to share?

I am from…
