EF Blue Card
Respect. Care. Integrity. Trust
There is more and more attention and questions by the public, government and media on the quality and eligibility of EFL teachers in China. At EF we are proud of our teachers and we see this as a good opportunity to show that we have quality teachers who are eligible to teach Chinese students. We are introducing our EF Blue Card to set standards that are underpinned by the core values of respect, care, integrity and trust.
1. What is the Blue Card?
It is a card that is issued for all new teachers as a pre-requisite to be hired at EF and for renewal of all current teachers existing contracts. EF is committed to the care of young people and the Blue Card communicates we have the right people working with our learners.

2. What does it involve?
It involves checking and verifying information. This check includes:
– Identity verification
– Basic information verification
– Comprehensive criminal background check
– Completing a Statement of Commitment and Declaration. Click here to view the Statement of Commitment.
3. Is it only for International teachers?
No. It is for all teachers including local teachers
4. Does it cost any money?
No. EF issues the card to eligible teachers at no charge to you. EF also covers the cost of background checks for teachers that need to use one of our background check vendors to complete the comprehensive criminal background check.
5. I am a current teacher, how do I get a Blue Card?
All international teachers employed by EF in China at our own Kids & Teens, English Centers and English Town online center have already completed a background check, and had all the necessary information verified during the recruiting process. We now need you to up-date your basic information.
If you are a local teacher you did not complete a criminal background check as part of the employment process. To get a Blue Card you will need to agree to and complete a check.
The Blue Card screening also requires completion of:
a) Statement of Commitment, where you commit to providing an ethical, safe environment for students. To be issued a Blue Card you need to accept this Statement of Commitment online.
What you need to do:
6. When do I need to do this?
We would like you to do it as soon as possible and have set a target date of having all current teachers signed up.
7. What will the card be used for?
Applicants will be issued a card with a unique number which will be used for:
This means that all teachers both new and current will need the Blue Card to be enrolled in any certification or training offered by EF.

No. As the name implies this is a card that is used within EF and is only valid while you are an employee of EF.
9. When does the card expire?
The EF Blue Card is valid throughout your employment with EF. If you do not have continuous employment you will need to apply for a new card to re-join EF.
